Capitalizing on Virtual Reality to Improve Lives of Georgia Students and Youth Athletes
Special thanks to the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation for their generous support of this project that is impacting the lives of Georgia Youth
GIVES: School-Based VR Program
Engage students and athletes across the state of Georgia in engaging and realistic virtual reality-based sports training to reduce injury risk and improve athletic performance.
PROJECT AIMS
Develop and implement a sustainable school-based program.
Disseminate across all districts in state of Georgia, specifically targeting underserved school districts.
Aim to be leaders in providing injury prevention and educational outreach across Georgia through sustainable injury prevention screening, surveillance, rehabilitation, and education.
THE PLAN
Sports: Provide injury risk screening and VR sensorimotor training for thousands of youth in collaboration with Georgia schools
Education: Provide resources for school education that will open a pathway to successful careers in science, technology, healthcare, and sports
HOW THIS WILL WORK
School Partnership
We will work with teachers, coaches, and administrators to develop VR modules for injury prevention and education to achieve programmatic sustainability. We aim to create a program that will be self-sustaining for years to come.
Student Engagement
Youth already love VR and video games - the injury risk assessments will occur behind the scenes, so student experience the excitement of VR gameplay while participating in vital screening for sensorimotor deficits and training to improve injury resistance.
Career and Research Network
Our new network of education partners will help drive the next generation of sports medicine research. We will provide the hardware and learning materials to help students develop applications of VR in sports medicine and neuroscience, preparing them for vibrant careers in science and technology.
